In our world of instant gratification, where we can order new clothes in a click or find information and answers in a heartbeat, it’s easy to get frustrated when it takes longer than we like for things to happen. Our financial and business goals can feel out of reach when there’s weeks or months of work stretching ahead of us. But there is a simple yet powerful tool you can use to change your perception and free yourself from impatience around finances and money: gratitude.
While it may seem like a soft skill, cultivating a gratitude mindset can have a big impact on not just our emotional wellbeing, but also our financial success. Research shows that gratitude can help us become more resilient to the ups and downs of life, encourages positive relationships and opens the door to new opportunities. There’s even a study (you can read it here) that shows gratitude can reduce our impatience around money! That’s why in this blog, I’ll explore the role of gratitude in your financial success and give you tips to include more gratitude in your life, so that you have an effective tool at your disposal.
How being grateful for money shifts your perception
Our thoughts are so powerful, so it’s no surprise that if we’re worrying about not having enough money, we can’t see past that lack. Instead, you need to be grateful for what money already does for you. One effective way to reframe your finances is to think of gratitudes that are focused on the money you have now. Consider how it helps you every single day.
Money enables you to buy food and drink. Perhaps you treat yourself to a coffee out once or twice a week, or a meal with friends and loved ones. It’s what enables you to have a roof over your head, water running from your taps and clothes to wear. If you’re reading this on a smartphone or computer, money is helping you learn and grow!
Being grateful for that is so important, because we are lucky to have safe homes, warm clothes and food. Those things are not guaranteed for lots of people around the world.
How to include more gratitude in your life
I’m a big proponent of weaving daily success habits into your routine. These are a series of daily actions that are non-negotiable and lead to a happier, healthier and more predictive you. For example, meditation, journaling, making time to exercise and gratitude expressions.
Speaking or writing out what you’re grateful for is such an effective way to change your vibration. You simply can’t be negative at the same time as you’re being thankful for what you have! You can tailor your gratitudes to help you overcome life’s challenges. Or, as I’ve talked about in this blog, use them to reframe your finances and develop an abundant, thankful mindset. I’ll finish on this quote from Germany Kent which I think helps sum up the whole subject:
‘It’s a funny thing about life, once you start to take note of the things you are grateful for, you begin to lose sight of the things that you lack.’
