rural ladies in business networking

If I cast my mind back to four years ago, I had a calendar full of in-person networking events. It was a new year, and I was thoroughly looking forward to them all! I truly love going to meet other ladies, whether they run their own business or they’re there representing their employer. It’s a confidence boost to get out there and talk about what you do and why. Plus, it’s always interesting to hear about other people’s jobs, goals and dreams. Of course, four years ago we were hearing reports of a potentially dangerous virus that could sweep the world, and news from Italy was very worrying. In the end, we were locked down near the end of March 2020, and life wasn’t the same for years after that…

The benefits of connecting with others

There were chinks of light of course, when restrictions were lifted enough that we could meet in person. But for me and lots of other workers life was centred around being at home and being online. There are so many benefits to being able to work from a home office – you don’t have a commute, you can be at home for kids, pets, to accept parcels and pop a load of washing on. But humans are (usually!) sociable beings, and it can be lonely at home. It gets called the watercooler chat, the conversations about what people thought of a TV show, where they’re going on holiday next and perhaps a little bit of office gossip! Or the chance to share an idea with colleagues in a quick and casual way.

Launching my own ladies network!

During those ‘Covid years’ I ran networks for other organisations. That gave me a reason to plan and hold events when we could and to keep in touch with people online – and it was great! But I always wanted my own network. I dreamt of creating a networking group that truly reflected my vibe and brought people together in a relaxed way.  That’s why in 2023 I set up Rural Ladies in Business. My very own network for ladies who work in all industries connected with the countryside. My aim was to create something that was informal, friendly and affordable.

Choose from in-person or online

We meet online on the second Thursday of each month for around 90 minutes and have a coffee, catch up with each other and just let the conversation flow. I also hold in-person events at the Horton & Chalbury Village Hall which is a lovely venue with loads of free parking. These are usually on the fourth Wednesday of the month and are similar to my in-person events, but with a higher vibe and a little more energy! The common threads running through them both are that they are always welcoming, fun and informative. In-person events cost £10 per meeting and include coffee and biscuits The online events are just £5 – but I’m afraid you’ll have to sort out the refreshments for those!

Doing it for the love of connecting people

I don’t make any money from the events, but that’s really not the point.  I just love hosting events and find it very satisfying when people enjoy themselves. We have accountants, marketers, coaches, therapists, people who own pet food companies and so many other professions represented. There’s no limit on who can come either. I know some networks only allow one from each profession in each group, but that’s not what I’m all about. It’s never about the hard sell and endless promotion. Of course, if people find that there’s someone in the network who offers a service or product that they’re after, well that’s great! But the idea is to meet and chat and ‘shoot the breeze’!

If any of that sounds right up your street, I’d love to see you in a meeting! We’re growing all the time and new members are always welcome. You can learn more and find out how to join the next online or in-person meeting here:
